Colostrum FAQ’s

Is colostrum milk?
No. While colostrum is secreted by the milk ducts of the mammary glands of mammals, it is produced prior to birth of the calf and is rich in bioactive components derived from the bloodstream. It contains less lactose and differs dramatically in protein composition.

What makes your colostrum different from other colostrum products currently on the market?
The colostrum used in our products is true colostrum. It is collected within the first six hours after birth. The earlier it is collected, the higher the concentration of potent immune factors. It is also in a balance most effective for body regulation and enhancement.

How can other companies claim to have true colostrum?
There are some companies that claim colostrum is any milk-like fluid produced by all female mammals in the first 24 to 36 hours directly after giving birth. They claim it lasts until the onset of lactation, which occurs within 36 to 72 hours post-partum. This is not true. After the first milking, the colostrum’s value decreases rapidly. The hormonal changes at birth cause milk to start being produced. The body begins to reabsorb the components derived from the blood prior to birth and the act of milking the true 1st colostrum stimulates milk production. Some companies state that they use first milking and then describe that 1st milking is after the cow has been milked to feed the calf and collected within 16 hours.

Why is the colostrum frozen after collection?
Doesn’t that render it insoluble in water?

If fresh colostrum is soluble in water, it cannot be rendered insoluble merely by freezing and thawing. The colostrum is frozen after harvesting to retain its bioactivity and avoid the chemical changes that would eventually occur. Freezing is the preferred way of maintaining bioactivity of the product.

Are the lozenges processed using high heat?
No. The lozenges are cold pressed lozenges.

Why did you choose lozenges?
Scientific research has discovered that colostrum begins to “turn on” the immune system while in the oral cavity. Thus, the lozenges are the preferred form for ingesting colostrum, as opposed to capsules that can only be absorbed in the digestive tract. Some people prefer capsules for the convenience of being able to take a larger dose more quickly, so we will be offering capsules very soon.

Has the colostrum been de-fatted?
No. Some immune factors present in colostrum are contained in the fat portion of the product. Many manufacturers remove fat to elevate the lower IgG levels found in later collections (2 milkings and later) of colostrum. Immuno-Dynamics has processes that allow full fat colostrum to have a shelf life of greater than three years.

Has the lactose been removed from the colostrum?
No, it is not necessary.

If I am lactose intolerant can I use this product?
The answer is generally, “Yes.” The shorter the amount of time between birth and collection, the lower the lactose content. It typically takes over 77 milligrams of lactose to elicit a response in extremely lactose intolerant individuals. Our product contains less than 25 milligrams of lactose per lozenge.

Many products recommend using 2-4 grams of colostrum daily to receive benefits, so why do you recommend so much less per day?
If you use true colostrum, as little as 200 milligrams of high-quality colostrum taken in lozenge form will elicit the desired immune system response. Our product contains 200 mg of colostrum per lozenge. There is usage of higher amounts by people who have compromised conditions, have gastrointestinal (G.I.) issues or are athletes. Click here to find the usage that is right for you.

Is there bovine growth hormone (BGH) in your product?
Bovine growth hormone (BGH) occurs naturally in all dairy products. Immuno-Dynamics products (PerCoBa) contain no added BGH.

Are the cows used to obtain the colostrum free of pesticides and other chemicals?
Yes, and our quality control procedures verify this. Our suppliers meet the highest quality standards and regulations observed by the best dairies in the world.

Are you denying the baby calf of its colostrum?
Dairy farmers and Immuno-Dynamics understand the role of colostrum for calves. The calves are typically fed two to four liters of colostrum. Because the production of both milk and colostrum by cows has risen dramatically during the last 100 years there is surplus colostrum after the needs of the calf are fulfilled.

What standards are met for the production of colostrum?
Our company meets the stringent standards of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The colostrum is produced under a USDA-approved Outline of Production designed to ensure safety and efficacy to the standard of injectable products.

Why don’t you produce capsules like others, rather than lozenges?
The lining of the naso-oro-pharyngeal cavity is lined with hundreds of receptors of various kinds that recognize all of the components in the first milking of colostrum. Also there are many buffers and enzymes secreted within the lining of the mouth area to protect the components in colostrum that are not utilized in the mouth area. As the protected components pass through the stomach and upper part of the small intestines they are not destroyed, nor would be other non-protective components. In other words, they are much more effective than capsules. However, we realize that some customers prefer capsules, so we are looking into offering a capsule option.

Are your products free of disease producing organisms and chemicals?
Yes, every production lot of product that Immuno-Dynamics has ever produced has been tested to assure this, both in house and by independent lab analysis.
